"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
(I Peter 5:8, NKJV)
"that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting" (Ephesians 4:15, NKJV)
One afternoon, I was spending time with my children (son 6yrs. old and daughter 12 yrs. old). We were playing UNO (card game). Now, my son had just learned to play this game about 2 weeks prior to this day. Since he’d been playing every day; he’d gotten the gist of it and felt that he was just as good as his sister (sibling rivalry)!
My daughter has somewhat of a quiet demeanor, though she’s very observant. So she’d already noticed(mastered) his method of playing. My son gets very excited when he’s able to change the color (The Wild Card). It was his turn, he played the "wild card" and gave a color. My daughter stated "I knew you would pick that color." My son stopped in the middle of his sentence, looked at her, looked back at his cards, and then changed his mind on the color. Well the new color was exactly what my daughter had in her hand. She put the card down with much verbal excitement! Of course my son didn’t find it amusing. So, he stated "momma she keep tricking me." Normally, I ignore their rivalries, but this time I said "stop listening to her." Normally, I would get onto my daughter because she’s the oldest, but this time I felt like my son needed to know what he’d done wrong. I felt that if he could recognize the "trick" after he’d made his final move, he should had been more focus beforehand and not been deceived.
A few minutes went by and the conversation replayed in my mind. Then I received a revelation. This is exactly how the enemy handles the believers. We pray and receive a Word from God, then we make a decision, a move, and etc. The enemy speaks a word to us that seems convincing, then we change our mind based on his words and find ourselves losing out on what God has for us. For some of us we may even recognize the trick after we’ve been deceived... It should be totally opposite. As believers, we should be discerning the trick/schemes before we make our move.
"My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things" (Proverbs 2:1-12, NKJV)
Stop believing the "lies of the enemy." Allow God’s Word, His Wisdom, Revelation and Knowledge to determine your course of action. The enemy is very subtle, taking partial truth mixing with his lies to create an illusion of the truth, attempting to get us off course (God’s perfect Will for our lives). It’s time for us to step up on our discernment and know without a shadow of a doubt the voice we’re hearing and obeying.
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27, NKJV)
